Quick 24/96 Question...
« on: January 17, 2005, 02:10:25 PM »
I did some experimenting with 24 bit taping when I was running a V3, but now that I've switched to M248>(mod)SBM1 I'm curious about a few things.

The V3 could output a 24/96 signal, but the SBM1 can only do 16/48...is it considered "acceptable" to resample with your soundcard, i.e. set your recording software to 24/96? Is that okay, or is it better send the PC a 24/96 signal to begin with?

Does this even make any sense?  ;)

It really serves no purpose to re-sample a 16/48 source to 24/96. You aren't capturing the original source audio; so you really aren't getting any better resolution than the original 16/48 recording.

go buy yourself an external upsampling DAC or cd player with internal upsampling DAC's...

the Toshiba 3960 upsamples to 24/192, sells for cheap at best buy (about $60)

good primer on upsampling

Do you mean take the digi out of the SBM into your PC when recording?

If so, there is no point as mannysbones said. You will end up with a huge 24/96 wave file that only has an actual 16/48 resolution.

Take care,
Ben
