Title: M-Audio MobilePre USB
Post by: deadahead93 on August 02, 2009, 10:05:31 PM
Hi there...
Just two quick questions for ya all.

Just found this pre for a good price (did not buy yet) but know nothing about it. Did some research online and on TS, but didn't find much. Is it a quality preamp?

It is the M-Audio MobilePre USB ( http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MobilePreUSB.html ) and was wondering if anyone uses/used this preamp? If so, what are your thoughts?

The second question is... It is powered by USB, so what do I use to power this unit in the field?

Thanks for the NooB advice!  ;D

Not recommended.  Analog stage is based on simple USB 5V power supply (ie., no stepup power supply like other USB products).  In fact, I've observed cases where this unit clipped badly.

It might be OK, but probably beat by any standard $100-$150 USB device.  Best bet would be a used Edirol UA5 (unmodded).
