PMD670 power without batt. sled
« on: January 28, 2011, 08:52:22 PM »
So i got a great deal on a 670, got it today without a batt. sled or wall wart. I've been reading around for a bit and it looks like I can use something other than a 13v 1a wall wart, is this correct? Also, does anyone on here make batteries for this thing or know where to get a replacement sled? oh, and whats the max size CF card it will recognize? Thanks!

You can order a new AC adapter from D&M Pro, but I suggest you get a DVD external battery instead for the field. Don't even waste your money on a battery sled. That is the weak point of the 670/671. The connection between the sled and the contacts inside the deck are poorly designed, and even the slightest jostling of the recorder can cause that weak connection to make the unit think the batteries are low, and shut the deck down with very little notice. One minute, full bars of power, one bump and the next thing you see, flashing empty battery indicator and then off she goes.  :P

The main reason I switched to a 661 and relegated my 670 to DAT transfers using AC power only was the random failures in the field. I understand it works fine with external power, and of course with the AC adapter.

I use a 12v lithium ion rechargeable battery.

Cost is high but I have had no issues over the 3 years that I have been using it.

Thanks DATBRAD, so youre saying i can use the same 9v dvd battery that I have for my UA-5 on the 670, and it gets enough power from that? And what about the wall wart, can I use anything besides a 13v 1a?

I never got an external battery for my 670. Hopefully someone else will post with specifics on what type of external power works best.

I ran my 670 for years with a dvd battery with no issues.  I always carried 2 and swap them out at set break but i had gotten 4+ hours off one battery if I forgot to bring an extra or something.

so if the 9v battery can power it, can I use a 9v or 12v wall wart to test it out?
