USB 2 is as fast as Firewire but Firewire has been achieving those speeds successfully for much longer. Still some quirks with 2.0 from time to time. Although I havent had problems with my 1 to 3 target burner using 2.0
Its the terror of knowing what the world is about. Wathcing some good friends screaming let me out.

USB 2 is as fast as Firewire

No it's not, as stated before.  The key is throughput.

USB 2 is as fast as Firewire

not quite. usb2 peaks as fast as firewire, but sustained throughput is slower than firewire.
besides, the jb3 is usb1.1, not 2. for transferring jb3>pc, firewire will run mad rings around usb

Which is why macs rule for audio...the first time I used firewire was to d/l songs onto my iPod...I thought it was kidding when it dumped 10 gigs in 25 seconds...
I'll be taping my first show with my firewire interface this Sunday in Orlando...

I don't see how that makes them "rule for audio" but ok ;D

Michael D. Jonas invented FireWire as an international standard--he just happened to be working for Apple at the time and after a little begging they smartly implimented it.  Apple does, however, own some legal rights to the term "FireWire" and "i.Link" I believe.

it was a joint Apple/Sony spec, not just Apple

Yep. Apple likes to use the term firewire and Sony calls it iLink.

Right.  ::)  Apple and Sony worked together to develop the standard known as firewire and published it as an IEEE standard so anyone can use it.
