It was nice while it lasted
« on: October 26, 2006, 10:44:40 AM »
I have a fellow tapers SBM-1 open at my house. The RCA jacks need to be replaced. I called one of the people I know that has worked on Sony gear. He no longer had his parts manual, so he didn't have the part number. He gave me Sony's direct number for service parts.

I called and told them I didn't have a part number, but told them what I was looking for, they looked up the part number for me and their computer system told them the part was no longer available. I asked if that was true for all internal parts on the SBM-1, she then proceeded to look up two more parts from the service manual. Both of those were also listed as no longer available.

Looks like if you have a SBM-1 and need parts for it, you're going to have a tough time getting them. We all knew the hammer would fall, it was just a matter of time. Looks like that time has finally come. :-(

RIP.

Can you solder some wire on the sbm1 where the RCA contacts are and run it outside the sbm1 & make a sort of break-out box w/ rca jacks?

In this case, that may be our only option.

definately sad news... i have been thinking about one for a while...

thankfully there are several tinker types that can help in a pinch.

what would be a compable outboard a/c with similar size?

About the only things I can think of are the AD20 and possibly the Core? 2496 one.  Not real familiar w/ it so I may be wrong on the last one.

I think the mic2496 is 24 bit output only...

running the RCAs on a two short pieces of shielded cable is not a bad deal... The way it was made and hooked up caused stress points and caused it to break in the first place. Let me know before you scrap this unit and I'll fix it for you.

yeah, that's not a bad option at all.  the coax output was a dongle too, and it was nbd.
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.
