Phantom/Pre-Amp for MT 24/96
« on: November 10, 2006, 12:23:10 PM »
Looking to replace some gear with an all-in-one solution for phantom power (MBHO 603's) and preamp/A>D converter that will provide SPDIF to the MT. appreciate any opinions/suggestions.

Budget wise, i'd like to keep it under $500. Just want ease.. coming from MBHO603 > PS2 > AD-20 > D8, before that MBHO 603's > MP2 > ACD20 > DA-P1 with heavy assed ecocharge batts. just want to cut down on the amount of equipment and simplify the rig..

Agreed - modified Edirol UA-5 for your budget.  GREAT sound / value for the price.  Busman or Oade Warm / Presence / Transparent mod, depending on what sound you like.  If it was me, I'd go with an Oade Warm mod if you can find one, as I think it will match well with the bright-ish MBHOs.  Check the YS, I think there are a couple UA5's for sale currently.

Thanks for the suggestions. Anybody have any experience with the M-Audio Fast Track Pro? Lots of the same features as the edirol UA-5.

Try a Search for "Fast Track" and restrict the results to this forum - may be a couple threads about it.

I agree   ;D   the UA-5 listed above would make a perfect pre/AD for those HO's and the MT!

Why not the Coresound mic2496? I just bought it for the same use (with the MT) so I have not tested it yet, but on the paper should do all (phantom power, pre and A/D).
I'd like to have any opinion on this subject.

I've been using the Fast Track Pro for two months now and have been quite happy with it. A bargain at $200!
