iriver-H1xx pre-owned vs. refurbished
« on: August 13, 2007, 12:01:47 AM »
I want to pick up another iriver off the bay but I'm not sure if I would rather purchase a used one from an individual or buy one of the refurbished ones that always come up from time to time. One factor is cost but I'm not really too worried about the $20-$30 I might save if I have problems with one over the other. Does anyone have any user experience from the refurbs on ebay? good, bad, don't bother?

WWTSD?

Thanks

the 2 irivers i got via ebay were from private sellers and they were not refirbs (and they were both the ihp-120's the black ones).

things may have changed since i got mine, but at the time there were soooo many refirbs that had lots of issues on ebay being sold.

thats what I was afraid of...
I might just go with the individual seller, looks to be a few to choose from on 3bay at the moment  ;D.

But for the other  perspective, I am 2 for 2 with perfect results buying from roadpal on ebay.  That is the seller AVSense, Inc which is iRiver America.  The battery on my first purchase, was dead, but my second had a new battery on arrival.  Any 3rd party  item will also be prone to a dead battery as the chemistry breaks down with age.

Six of one or a half dozen of the other....

May be a bit late on this one, but if I had the choice I'd go used over refurbed.  I've seen too many refurbed units with issues.
Mics: Audix m1290's, AT943's (w/ AT853 C/O/H caps), AT853's
Power: PS-2, Homebrew 3wbb, SPSB-6
Pre/AD: UA-5 (BM2p+), CA-9100, AD-20
Recorder: iriver H120, H160

FWIW that is the route I went, my only concern was the battery life which in all honesty I'll be changing out for the 2200 upgrade anyway so I guess even that doesn't matter.

I don't believe I have heard of any refurbished units that came with new batteries anyway.  Whether you buy used or refurbished, it is a good idea to plan on a battery replacement (and upgrade while you're at it), IMO.
