Edirol R-09 firmware 1.20 about to be released
« on: January 22, 2007, 09:13:57 PM »
Hey all... I sent in a support email to Edirol about an issue I am seeing with my R9 and 8gig SDHC cards.  Today I got a standard email back saying they would take a look but they have not seen the issue with any of the 4gig cards they tested with.

Anyway, to my surprise when coming out of Costco today I got a call from Edirol support.  They apologized for the slow response (even though I only sent the email Friday) but they were all at CES.

Anyway, They are going to get a transcend 8gig card to test my issue but they also mentioned firmware 1.20 was about to be released.  The person I talked to was surprised that the Japanese version was not already up on their site and expected all versions to be up in the next couple of days.  End of week at the latest.

He said there were a few cool new features along with improved SDHC support.

- Stealth mode - Turns off the red light when recording. 8)
- Adjustable split size - Lets the user determine when to split the file that is being recorded.

Awesome!!!!  I hate that red light.  The adjustable split is a cute feature, though I would still have mine set at 2GB.  But that red light has to go.  Nice job Edirol!!!   ;D

With 1.20 coming out, 8GB has to be in the next firmware ( guessing 1.30).  The soon-to-be-released Zoom H2 will be the new rage this spring, because its half the price of the R09 and has almost the exact same features.  Edirol will need the 8GB card configuration to maintain the R09's competitive advantage in the marketplace.  Ya gotta love competition.  8)

Sweet, I can take that bit of garbage bag off my recorder now :D

I like the split feature idea...I can set it at 79:59 to ensure audio CD length files :)

One of the pages in there has a picture with rotating colors... I think I also saw grey and blue.

Umm... H2?

I'm happy with my own gear, but singers who've figured out I'm a gearslut are constantly asking me about products etc. Most of them don't want to invest that much $ in gear (well, a few do, but the majority are just not that into it) and are always asking for cheaper options.

What's the deal with the H2?
