MQA - Do You Use It?
« on: June 11, 2021, 04:32:13 AM »
A few years back, the big sales pitch was that proprietary digital was about to revolutionize streaming audio.
More than a few players jumped on it with glowing support.

Now it looks like royalty grabbing, subencoding that exploited higher bandwidth for everything but better sound.
'Authentic" meaning they get paid and audiophiles pay the bill for their watermarking.

It seems to me that the entire process was meant to "tell" listeners what sounds good, rather than to have them make their own call.

My take? Avoid and do not support.  It's a money grab exposed as charlatanism and a temptation away from the righteous path of openness and truth.

The one potentially good part of it never really panned out, and was burred beneath the landslide of BS and proprietary-ness.

Garbage. A solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Then all of negatives that go with it. Pass.

I was pro at first, but realized that HD stuff from qobuz sounds consistently better than MQA, to me. Pass.
