Naztech PB15000 dies in 4 hours now?
« on: February 16, 2015, 11:26:42 PM »
I've been running a Naztech PB15000 for exactly 1 year powering my DR680 & V2 at 12 volts. I've always been able to get 6 hours powering both without a problem but I lost battery power at JRAD last week in under 4 hours. I charged the battery & tested at home tonight, once again I lost power in a little under 4 hours. This is without providing phantom power since the tube power supply requires a separate battery which is a 16v, 3.5a at 100wh.
My question is what to replace the Naztech with? I've already had a defective one out of the box that I returned, replaced with another that wouldn't last longer than 2.5 hours & replaced again with this one that has worked for exactly a year. I've emailed Naztech to see if they will defect both of these units since I still have the last one I bought that only got 2.5 hours. So so far three Naztechs without this last one lasting a full year, I know people have had great luck with them but I haven't. Do I buy something else & if so what OR will my 16v battery work if Richard can build me a power distribution box?

If your track record with Naztech was a little better, I'd probably just tell you to buy another because there aren't a lot of great 12v options.

Tekkeon MP3450 (ideally the "i" version) - I'm quite happy with my Tekkeons, but they have a terrible track record with the DR-680. I also think they're they're a bit overpriced with a smaller capacity than their competitors, but the feature set is generally nice.

Bixnet MP100 - This thing is a beast; truly an awesome battery. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is fairly big. Perfect for a festival, but perhaps a bit too big to lug to the average show on a weeknight. I think it would power the DR-680 for two days straight! j/k

Bixnet PM66 - I have never used this battery, but I believe it's the same manufacturer, Novucell, as the Battery Geeks batteries. Those were awesome, but have been discontinued. I don't like the pigtail and the other models had direct output jacks, but I appreciate the simpleness of these batteries. They're basically just like DVD batteries, but higher voltage and better build quality. At $129, I probably wouldn't buy the PM66, but I think there are a few others here that have run them and like them.

Anker Astro Pro2 - Similar price and size to the Naztech. I think there are few people here that use and like these. I don't own one and can't say, but have generally liked the Anker brand and products that I have purchased in the past, including macbook pro replacement batteries.

I have been running my tube amp and dr-680 on 9 volts since day one with no issues.  You must have some dvd batteries lying around that tonedeaf can refurbish?

I guess the Anker is my best bet at this point. I've had the Battery Geek batteries in the past & the Bixnet PM looks similar no doubt also the MP is too large as you said for a typical week night show. It looks like the Anker is a different tip than my Naztech though.

Carl.  Sorry you're having troubles with the Naztechs.  I don't know the specific cell that's installed in them, but if you want to send that dead one to me, I'll break it open and take a look.  Since there are lots of people that own Nazteks, me included, eventually they'll probably want them refurbed, so I'll do the work gratis just to have the opportunity to break into one of them and do some research.  Would ask you to choose and pay for the replacement batteries you'd want to use, once I take a look, though I'll be happy to buy them.  I'll be able to help you figure out what's needed and some good options for replacement, from lower end to high end replacement cells, if you want a range of options.

Thanks Steve, I got an RMA to send them back for warranty evaluation. If they don't repair them I'll definitely send them your way, I  appreciate the kind offer.

I renember seeing a problem one advertised on ebay for twenty bucks or something.  If i run across another one of those listing I'll pick it up and crack it open to both fix it and find out what's inside.
