Mic stand question for Panasonic NV-GS
« on: December 18, 2007, 07:43:06 AM »
Hi,

As a total newbye in video recording I need your help, please.

Here's what happens : I'll report all the shows I'll attend
for a reggae site and I'll have the right to bring my camera,
my mics and all. But i'll not have access to soundboard, so
i need to get a decent camera to record.

I am planning to buy a Panasonic NV-GS230 (mini DV), because of his
mic in plug. I do not want to spend more than 400€ (500$) and
this one fits perfectly with what i want.
Because of bad internal mics I am planning to plug my AT831 or the CA STC-11.
These ones gave very great sound everytime i used them with my
batt box>iHP-120, so I guess this will be the case with that cam
(IF i am wrong, do not hesitate to let me know ;))

I do not want to put the mics on my collar/hat. Here's
what i am thinking of : I could build my own mic stand (flexible,
you know, like most of office lights) and fix it on my
cam stand.

Here's my question :
HOW COULD I PUT THE MICS ?
DOES ANYONE HERE HAVE PLANS/TIPS TO BUILD HIS OWN MIC STAND (flexible
ones would be fantastic)?

If anyone thinks this is possible, i would need your help please.
And on the contrary if anyone thinks this is stupid i would need
your inputs and suggestions :)

Thanks in advance to anyone

I usually use a Bogen Superclamp and Heavy Duty Flex Arm to attach my mics to my camera stand.   That doesn't get me very high but the flexible arm is great.  I think there are some extension for the super-clamp that could get you some more height.
