Title: 2 channel speaker placement?
Post by: ts on July 26, 2008, 11:10:51 AM
Finally got my 2 channel room working. Any suggestions for distance between VR-1's? The sub is as close to center as I can get it. Should the right and left be 6 feet apart? More? Right now they're about 10 feet. Probably creating a hole in the middle.

thanks, ts

how far is the listening position from the speakers? I'd start with an equilateral triangle, set the speakers an equal distance apart as they distance from each speaker to the listening position. Then depending on the room you can bring them in or out a little and mess with toe-in. The equilateral triangle has always been a good starting point for me and then I spend a long time tweaking

The room is 15 feet wide by 25 feet long but with a slope in the ceiling. It's a room above the garage. Right now the point of the triangle is at 10 feet, same distance between the speakers. There does'nt seem to be a huge hole. I'll try a little toe-in next. thanks.

Do you have the speakers along the short wall or the long wall?

The VSAs throw a pretty wide image so I wouldn't expect a hole in the middle at 10ft.  I'd add toe-in before moving them closer together.  I like mine aiming at a point about 25 ft behind me.  It seems to help with the first reflection point off the wall.

do the white noise shuffle.
play some and adjust speakers (width and toe) until you get a nice tight ball of static projecting in the middle.
once you get that, you're basically done and they will sound great

Good idea. Also I think because of the sloped ceilings the toe in will really help.
