Get a small and dark stuffed animal and cut off the hands... I know kinda morbid  :'(
Use dark bread ties to secure them to the cables. Works for me... nuff said.

Radar O'Reilly would courtmartial you for that suggestion!  LOL.

The solution was, Reticular Foam, in 1/4 inch thicknesses (same stuff for speaker covers), lining the hat (what a PITA), and similar multiple layers of that foam covering the caps.  This was a sewing project, for which I was not well suited, buts its done.
