Sony DTC-A7 DAT help
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:05:34 AM »
I managed to get a great deal on a prestine condition Sony DTC-A7 DAT player for converting my masters and am wondering if anyone has had experience with this model?  I'm also looking for a copy of the owner's manual which was not included.

Please PM me if you can answer a couple of my questions on the unit.

Thanks!

No experience with that deck, but I was able to d/l the maual for free from here:

Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

Thank you very much for that link!

I have determined that I need to find a remote in order to change the repeat function on the unit.  Does anyone know what remotes will work for this unit and where they can be found?

hey Alex!
I had a friend with 2 of those units and had an opportunity to use them
they are commercial models and had SCMS which shouldn't be a problem
other than that, I don't recall anything else negative about them

as far as the remote, I picked up a remote here from vanark
to use with my R500 that is a basic Sony DAT remote
it works with MOST Sony DATs... hope you can find one

The same series of Deck in a professional version is the Sony PCM-2600 (predececor to the R500) and PCM-2800 (predessor to the R700).  I think the A7 is comprabile to the 2600.

There was also a Sony DTC-59ES and PCM-2300 but I believe these are 2 motor decks.

Update

A7 = PCM-2300
A8/A9 = PCM-2600

A9 adds Balanced Analog IO to the A8.
