Zoom H2 - Line-In Attenuator Pad - Recommendations Please
« on: December 09, 2010, 03:52:07 AM »
I'm in the UK, so getting access to the desk the other night was somewhat of a rarity.  In the back of my mind I remembered something about the Zoom H2 Line-In being over sensitive and decided to go with an old MiniDisc recorder.  Good move.

Question - Can anyone recommend what type of attenuator to use to condition the Line-In signal; or indeed any other solution.  I know Micro Track recommend and sell a 10dB pad but I've read (here I think) of people using 15 and 20dB on an H2.

Many thanks.

I was pretty happy with the Core Sound -11dB attenuator cable > H2, but it's one more connection which can fail. I tell ya, I'm MORE happy with the Sony PCM-M10 with it's input level of 2.0 volts!!! The H2 can only take .775v. WTF were they thinking at the engineering side for that? That's the AVERAGE signal level for home audio. Not even peak. Let me be clear - the maximum level the line inputs of the Zoom H2 can handle is the same as the nominal (normal!) signal level of home audio.

Sorry had to vent. Here's the cable:

How can I make similar at home? How much Ohms resistors needed to do -10dB?
Mics: AT853, ATM35
Inbetween: CA-9100, 3-wire battery box (homemade)
Recorders: Olympus LS-12, Zoom H2 (4 channel line input mod)
Video: Panasonic HC-V770 (x2), GoPro Hero4 Silver, Sony RX10mkII
