optical cable (pcm-m1)
« on: April 13, 2004, 05:48:12 PM »
Another m1 question.  I have 3 digital cable options:

POC-DA12P
POC-DA12MP
POC-DA12SP

My intentions are to run from the digital I/O to a SB Extigy (optical in).  Right now i'm thinking that I have to go with the MP.  I've searched google and have turned up nothing but non-english sites.  Any help is appreciated.

I think most of these cables aren't made any longer and are sometimes difficult to find.

If you really get in a bind you could get a 7-pin coax cable and a coax / optical digital format converter, like the ODL-276.  Or...just get a soundcard that accepts coax inputs.

Coax = S/PDIF , am I correct?  If so, i've got that option on my card as well.  If I were to go that route, I need a converter, right?

Basically correct, yes.  S/PDIF is a digital signal format transmitted over a 75 ohm coax cable.  If your soundcard takes coax S/PDIF input, to run M1 > soundcard you'll need simply:

[1] 7-pin/coax cable
[2] coax cable with RCA connectors to run the length from your M1's 7-pin/coax cable to the RCA input on your soundcard

Check the Archival Info forum for some options on your 7-pin/coax cable.
