Audio Technica Pro7a Mics
« on: September 12, 2005, 08:43:00 PM »
My office just surplus'd some equipment and I have now acquired two Audio Technica lavalier microphones.  The mics themselves say "Pro7a" on them and they come with windscreens and power sources.  Problem is, I can't find any information about these microphones on the web and I'm trying to figure out if they can be used for recording shows.

Anyone have any idea?

Google is your friend: http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:83SXL8vfsIkJ:audiotechnica.com/prodpro/profiles/PRO7a.html+%22Audio+Technica%22+%22pro7a%22&hl=en&lr=lang_en

With a bottom end frequency response of 300 htz, not well suited for stealthing. Probably best used as an interview microphone or used to close-mic instruments in a home studio

Probably not what you were hoping to hear but you can't beat the price and they could be very useful in the proper situation.

Thanks for the link and the information.

So if I recorded a show with these it just wouldn't be loud enough you think?

Your recordings might be lacking in the low end of things.

Volume wouldn't be the problem, it would be the lack of deep bass. Not that it's a bad microphine, just not suited for live recording. Better for vocals or instrument micing in a studio situation.

Alright well thanks for the replies.  I think, for now at least, these will suit me for getting started.  This is an expensive hobby to get started in (as I'm sure you're all well aware) so I'll just use what I have for now.

Once again, thanks a bunch.
