451's are good for recording, but they are a little bright.  These are fixed cardioid caps - new sets go for about $1K.  Used they're probably worth $700 or so - maybe a little more.

You might do better to pick up an older pair of 451E or 451EB instead - these are modular and omni, card and hyper caps were made for them.  You can often get older 451's for 300 apiece, sometimes even less.

I have a pair of 451EB's.  EB for extended bass response.  I think the sound a little better than the B's because ya they are a little bright.  I don't run em that much as I prefer my 414's but I will never sell them as they are mint and vintage from the 70's.   ;D  I payed 800 for the matched pair but this was in 92 so I'm really not sure what they'd be worth now a days.  Good luck.

:0)  Only one but I'd bet another will surface at some point.  Mine are just like this but are nickel.

Yep, I've had several sets of the older 451's (both E and EB models) in the past.  Still like them a lot, although I don't currently have any.  Probably pick up another pair in the near future though.  Don't know much about the new ones (the "B" series) but the fact that they're fixed and not interchangeable rules them out in my mind.

Good luck to ya,
Dirk
