also the 391s are great mics for the money, probably the best value in that price range.

i agree 100% :-*

The 391's are decent. But keep in mind that for about the same price or not much more than a pair of new 390s you could get a used pair of 460's which certainly sound better than the 390's and gives you the option of having them moded down the road.

I disagree.....a modd'ed pair of 460s absolutely sound better....but a stock set....well, lets just say I have not heard a tape that is convincingly better....bottom line trust your ears...

Well we'll have to agree to disagree then. Because, having run 390's, stock 460's, and mod 460's, I can say without a doubt that, to my ears, the 460's, even in stock form, are quite superior to the 390's.

Agreed here too. I went 393's to stock 460's and there's no doubt that the 460's are better.

I just taped my first show with AKG391's and I love them!  Paired them up with a warm mod UA-5.. Here's a link to the show bittorrent if you want to hear what they are like with a warm mod UA-5.

i really like the 391's...used them with and without a preamp. great results, especialy considering the upgrade from my at822 that i used to tote around.

for the price they are just what i wanted and need, and should hold off the upgrade bug for a while.

i see alot of people using the 391's and warm mod ua-5's...that should tell you something

have a grateful day

A live concert to me is exciting because of all the electricity that is generated in the crowd and on stage. It's my favorite part of the business, live concerts.

the 140's yes, but IMO,idontlikethe 150caps NEARLY as much as the 63 hypers....the 150's have too much bass roll-off IMO...but if yer gonna run 140'salmost exclusively, theyreVERY tight, if ya want hypers, go akg

i agree completely.  i absolutely love my 140s but i think if i ever decided to pick up a set of hypers i'd probably just buy a set of 483s instead of the ak50 caps.

I'll agree as well.  After running 481/83 for much longer than the 140's I have now, I'd be more inclined to buy another set of 480's or modded 460's with the 63 caps before laying down the cash a set of AK50 caps would cost + I think they are overly bright in comparison to the 483's....

I am actually thinking of possible upgrading after the end of the year, so I may have a set of 391's with 93 caps as well...we shall see...

Uh ohhhh....... What are we looking at Nick?

-JB

something a little more portable....JK Labs, 4022, KM140 route....my preference would be the JK Labs box...cause I love the AKG sound...but we shall see...

go with the 140's, imo...i think they have a fuller sound than the akg's and their warmth will do better in less than optimal taping situations than the 4022's.  definitely my favorite of the sd's for all around usage.  since i used to run them, i may be a bit biased  ;)

I hear more of a presence peak than a bass rolloff... maybe it's just me.  Same effect either way though.

I'd clean out the carseats for that extra $$$ edge and get some stock 460's... leaves you with many more options down the road.

How much are used pairs going for?  Couldn't find any one EBay to look at.
