I need to build 3 cables to run from my mics to a mixer. The mixer has 1/4" in's that are unbalanced. I am planning to use neutrik XLR's, canare cable...but the 1/4" plugs I'm curious about. Could someone please describe the differences betwen TS and TRS, and suggest some that would be appropriate for this cable?
I have the .pdf that was posted with the schematics for building balanced/unbalanced cables, but I would appreciate any advice on the proper 1/4" plugs.
Also, does anyone know if the out's on the Nak MX100 are balanced or not? I'm going to need to build some cables for that as well to run to my A/D (AD20).
Thanks folks!

TR = 2 conductors
TRS = 3 conductors
You will want TS plugs for this...I cant really recommend any particular brand...
The ins and outs on the MX-100 are unbalanced...

I used switchcraft connectors when I made identical cables
-
TR = Tip/Ring (2 conductors)
TRS = Tip/Ring/Sleeve (3 conductor, can be balanced)

tr is unbalanced
trs is either balanced or stereo(unbalanced)
which pdf did you find for bal/unbal? i'm in the same boat, but since the latest melt down i'm not able to locate the one i want. pin outs don't match for what i have. if i was smarter, i could figure it out on my own, but i'm not.

you'll need a standard mono 1/4" plug. i use Canare F-15:

for the xlr, Neutrik NC3FX-B
for wiring, i suggest the Canare GS-6 or Starquad
pin assignments:
XLR: 1/4"
Pin1 > shield
Pin2 > tip (hot)
Pin3 > shield

for mono 1/4 inch plugs, I used the neutrik NP2X-B

yup, that's what I ordered!
unfortunately, this cold I caught was NOT placed with yesterdays order! :(
-
Well I received my order last night and believe it or not i think I only have one more question! ::)
The tip/ring setup of these Neutrik's are quite different from the Whirlwind cable I looked at that I have and I just need a bit of clarification before I proceed.
I am going to use the smaller section in the middle of the connector as the tip, and the inside of the larger outer portion as the ring, yes?

Thanks again for everyone's input!
