iPhone recording APP that disables "Audio Zoom"
(1/1)
RockingGator:
I am a low-tech concert recorder. I record videos of live shows with my iPhone and upload them online to share with others.
I am looking for an app for iOS that allows you to turn off the "Audio Zoom" function. When you zoom in with the camera, the microphone also zooms in, crushes the sound, and ruins the audio qualify of the video. It sounds like complete garbage. It used to be a toggle on/off feature but a few years ago Apple made it on by default with no way to turn it off.
I assume there are apps out there which allow more detailed control of the camera and microphone functions like audio zoom, but this is a niche feature by most standards and I am hoping the experts here might know the answer.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I found this comment by user rtardxpress on an apple forum:
solution! - turning off audio zoom on iphone 12 pro max when recording video!
so the audio/microphone levels change as you're recording video, and then switch between wide, ultrawide, and telephoto cameras
after screwing around with settings, i discovered that if you turn OFF the "record stereo sound" option in camera settings - this effect seems to go away, and the audio/microphones stay at a consistent level regardless of the camera lens being used!!
just wanted to leave this potential solution here, as ive seen a number of questions asking about getting rid of the microphone zoom "feature"...
and i have been VERY frustrated trying to master audio levels from my iphone clips, when trying to edit them into other video projects

wow what a non-intuitive feature, have never heard of that.

Nassau73, thank you for sharing that. I saw the same on a forum, but I was hoping there is a software that would still allow stereo recording just without the audio zoom function. That method is a workaround, but it forces it into mono which is a bummer.
Ronmac:
Check out the free camera app from BlackMagic Camera. It gives a lot more control over the iPhone camera than the native app does.
