FWIW, with a solid clamp and extension pole I find I don't need bungees.

IMHO, there are no absolutes. I have nearly every pole and clamp in the "seasoned taper" trick-bag and still find situations where a bungee or two and some gaff/duct tape still come in handy...

While I don't carry bungees around unless I'm at a festival and use them to help stake down a stand, I always carry gaffers tape.
