Curious how folks are powering these...also can I run external power with batteries installed as back up? Its ok with the MP6...some decks don't like this...
Thanks

Hey Walt. I've used Tekkeon MP3300's and MP3450 with the 661. You can run with batteries as backup without any issues. Great deck!

I'm excited to run this deck...I thinking I'm going to use my naztech 15000 maybe with some velcro to the back side of the 661...I used it for my v2 with alot of success..

Hi Walt,
Which decks do not like this? I have quite a few decks and always run external power with internals as my backup. The only issue I have ever heard about is that some older Tascam decks like the HD-P2 and DR680 and 680MKII could have a problem if you run a 9v external battery, but that is really because while it can run on a 9v it should be run on a 12v battery which solves the issue. Perhaps this is what you are referring to?

Hey walt. I use the Tekkeon MP3450 with my 661 and always keep the internals in it for backup as well.

i almost had a horrendous house fire when a tekkeon failed during charging, i wouldnt reccomend then at all. was a 3450, almost unused. kicked into rapid charge, battery case split and it ferociously spewed lithium (i think) smelling gas into my home til i got on a pair of nitriole gloves and was able to get it outside and unplugged

Any standard 5v USB battery should work with the proper power cable. GAK power cables are great!

Ted built a cable for my Naztech 15000...works great!

Some decks don't switch seamlessly from external power to internal. I may be remembering this wrong, but I think my old M1 DAT would briefly drop power and stop if switching between the 2, not a good thing in the middle of a set.

This will work well. Although the 661 takes 5V, you also need a fairly high current. Any of the newer USB phone charging batteries should do, particularly ones designed to charge iPads (5V, 2A) and the newer phones. I have an older Anker battery that has 2 USB outlets, and it is a bit smaller than my naztech, so it fits in my pocket. One USB outlet powers the 661, and the other outlet powers my PSP2.
I also put internal AA's into the 661, just in case the power cable gets pulled or the battery pack runs out. It flawlessly switches between external and internal power.

This recently happened to me with an Anker 21000 battery and all I was doing was powering my MixPre-3. Unfortunately, this is lithium-ion cell thing and isn't isolated to Tekkeon batteries.
You know when you go to the PO and they ask you if the package has batteries? Same thing about prohibitions about packing li-ion batteries in a suitcase in your checked luggage on a flight.
This is about lithium-ion cells.
Bottom line is it's a best practice to charge your li-ions in a location where they can't start other things on fire, like on the garage floor.

Tekkeons appear to be no longer available. I'm finally looking to get a battery for my two 661s wondering if anyone has a suggestion?
Thanks!
