Title: DC input for SD MP-2
Post by: jeromejello on April 12, 2006, 12:44:43 AM
looking to try and find the switchcraft part number for the MP-2's external DC plug (threaded coaxial) on SD's site, i came across this:

Quote
DC Plug for Coaxial
Sound Devices MM-1, HX-3, and early versions of the MixPre and 442 mixers use a coaxial DC power connector. The mating, locking plug is available from Sound Devices as part number XL-DC.

Radio Shack's Adaptaplug M, p/n 273-1716, which has an inner diameter of 2.1 mm and an outer diameter of 5.5 mm can be used for a non-locking connection with these units.

my question is this, does anyone have any experience using the infamous adaptaplug M with this device?  obviously the connection wont be as secure (ie, locked) but did it do the job?

Thanks in advance for any insight
(mods feel free to move if there is a better forum for this querry)

oh, and does anyone know what the switchcraft part is? or if there is a ratshack equiviant to the locking part... trying not to order a ten dollar part and pay the same in shipping...

Not much help I guess, but I've plugged the adapt-a-plug M into the mp-2 before and it worked fine.  I didn't really give it a good jiggle, however.  I'd still get the locking part no matter what, though.

Switchcraft part # S761K   (NOT S760K as quoted below)

the M plug fits but i think that the polarity is different from the ua-5 so make sure you switch the tip around if you use the same cable. email sound devices and tell them you need a locking barell plug for the mp-2. they sent me one free of charge - even if you have to pay its worth the peace of mind knowing that shit won't come unplugged. I made my own cable for using a li-ion battery, just cut off the end and solder two wires to the locking adapter. there's a thread here somewhere i posted with the property polarity connections. if you know how a soldering iron works you can do it.

Anyone know of a place that sell the switchcraft s761k for a decent price that doesnt charge a rediculous price for shipping. I havnt been able to find a place that will ship it for less than 6bones which is re-cock-ulous
