I've heard about problems with the ReFurbs...

Make sure the unit has a battery, the power cord, the USB cord (easily replacable) and more iportantly the install disc (replaceable).

The install disc and USB cord, you can get a copy of here, and order from ebay (I have an extra USB for the wokr computer.)

But yeah, you'll need the battery (get 2) and the power cable to charge the battery...

And personally, I wouldn't buy it...  Those kinds of things I tend to want to buy brand new from manufacturer with warranty...  EVERY electronic item I have ever bought used from EBAY has had problems (that is except for the 3rd DAT machine I bought - the first 2 were bunk).

There were some people selling them on EBAY with the hard drives removed.  Watch out.

the 'refurbs' directly from creative, are the one's you want.  not too many of those out there anymore, and i've never seen a 40gig from them.  try to get one from here first, of course.  or, buy a new one from a retailer(i know) but at least you'll get all the stuff.  good hunting

Yeah I got a good deal on a 20GB unit used off Ebay, with just the battery (the USB cable I had and the Installer I got free off here), but as for the power Adapter, I have to wait until Creative gets their stock in, because to no one really has the same 5V 2400ma identical matches (not even Radioshack) to power this. So I am stuck with this unit and no way of charging the battery and using it until I get that Adapter for whatever Creative sells it for (like 15 I think). So above all make sure you get that Power Adapter.

(I got it for $107.50 with shipping too, so that isn't bad).

so then what is a good price for refurbs from a distributor?

20 gig for what?  $200 ?

I really wish I had bought one of these when they were still making them.  Isn't there anything out there you can buy new which has the same capabilities at the JB3 ?

surely some of the other mp3 players out there have recording capabilities?  no?  sorry if this is a question that's been answered many times over.
