As far as I can tell, this doesn't provide any gain, while the NBox does.  Depending on your application, you may or may not require the gain to get good levels.  I'm guessing in most circumstances you'd need the gain, but...maybe not.  Or maybe a pair of line transformers would do the trick.

On the other hand, I think the NBox is small enough that if one can't get it in the door, one's doing something wrong.  :P

this isn't a preamp or power supply.  looks like a substitute for a pair of cmc6 bodies.

Yeah, I don't need gains cause I'm going straight to a 722 and I'm also not worried about stealthing.
I thought this would be perfect to throw in the bag with the 722 for field-work......very slim!

Looks like it also still requires phantom power too.  Only looks like an alternative to KC5 >CMC6s using a KCY > VST 62 setup.

@ 1359.00(vst) + $750 (kcy) = ~2100
plus $50 for a 5pin to 3pin XLR

or

$1340 (cmc6x2)+  $960 (kc5 x 2) = $2300

Might be a little cheaper when going new but I'm sure finding a used CMC6 + KC5 or NBOX + KCY would be cheaper.
All prices are NEW from posthorn so YMMV.

I'm surprised I couldn't find any mention of this on the board.  I searched 'vst' and got nothing other than some software plugins.
Looks like a nice way to run actives with a 722.....small rig....done deal.

Just saw a MS setup on Ebay with the VST62IUg sold for $2500.

Shaggys got his CMC6s for sale here http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=53064.0
If ya decide to go that route.
These were chillin at my house for a bit. I would just sit at the kitchen table
gawkin at them all day, MINT FUCKIN CONDITION, he's never even ran them. 8)

Actually, I'm the one that won this auction. I never heard about the nbox because I'm not so hip in the 'taping' scene.  I do 'field' work, mainly in other countries.
The other night I went out a recorded a show and someone told me about the nbox so I came here to learn more about it.
Seems like a good deal, but considering I got 2 caps, the active cables, the vst, a 5-pin extension and the rycote suspension all used, I'm glad I went this route.
I guess the nbox comes in handy when someone needs power but the 722 has phantom, so, I could just throw the vst in the bag (takes up almost no space and only uses one cable), and no batteries!

Congrats on that eBay win - enjoy the VST package.  I was lusting after that myself, but couldn't justify the cost with all my other spending.  It must pair up wonderfully with the 722 in a fanny pack if stealthing is your thing.  I'll be running my 722 with CMC6 bodies and actives for the first time tonight -- just gotta do some cable soldering this afternoon.

Thanks, originally I was going to go the CCM route with the lemos and a connbox. Very small and easy to use. Plus the connbox would work great for hand-holding on my rycote as I mainly do field-work.  But, then I saw that ebay auction with the actives and the VST. I knew nothing about this rig so I had to learn fast as there were only a couple of days left on the auction.
In the end, while I wouldn't have the connbox and the rig would be a little larger, I could gain the options of different configurations for different situations without having to shell out for different CCM's (they are expensive).
So, now it's capsule hunting time!

Good threrad. I am interested in one of these, someday! I could run this and ANY preamp behind it, because the KCY Cable is the SHIZNIT! I only noticed Fozzy has one of these, this could make a KILLER small rig :)

Nick had one for a while.  And I think wklitz uses one (or did).  It's conceptually a pair of CMC6 bodies stuffed into one larger diameter tube.. aka "the hogleg".  One of these might be a little smaller than 2 regular CMC6 bodies, but not by much.

The (slight) advantage of having CMC6's (or even CMC4's) is that you could always switch to caps on bodies without actives for a while... either just to be different or if a KC5 cable gets buggered up.

I think the real reason to get one would be if one fell into your lap at a decent price, and you happen to have the right (KCY??) cable.

Yeah, I have the correct KCY to use w/ it. I just dont have the $1,800.00 the VST costs tho :P :(

I might be selling mine in the next couple of months.

the hogleg was a good, solid setup.   Loved it as an MS rig w/the MK4/8 combo I ran for a while.   I was just listening to a Phil show from Boston in '08 and was reminded how good that sounded.
