seeding questions...
« on: January 28, 2003, 12:30:34 AM »
Hey there guys! Well I have finally sacked up and got a card going in my machine. Everything works great but I want to make sure I'm going about this correctly.

First I was wondering if anyone else was using Cool Edit 2k for their sample rate conversion. I'm not sure what level I should set it at, obviously I'd like the conversion to be error free but I'd also like to use my computer sometime in the next week  ;)

Secondly I was just planning on seeding in FLAC and was wondering what I should set the encoding level at. Thanks for the help!

I was just looking into CE2K resampling this recently and found two brief discussions at the Oade forum (hope it's okay to post the links here):

When in doubt, I figure use a very high setting and simply fire it off before you go to bed.  If it takes 8 hours, you won't care - you'll be dreaming about listening to your newly resampled show in the morning.

For FLAC, I've always used the default, which I think is 5?  Seems to be a reasonable balance between speed/size.

I use cooleditpro for transfers. when i need to resample I normally rn about 500 on the quality scale. I tried the highest but could not hear any difference. I think those discussions state anything above 400 is overkill. I choose 500 just to be on the high side. If you have a decnet processor speed. The conversion should not take to long. On my desktop a athalonXP 1700+ (1.5 ghz) series with 256mb of DDR it takes about 45 min or so to downsample a set. On my laptop which is a 2.4ghz P4 with 512 DDR takes about 30 min or so at the 500 level. at 999 the highest it's about an hour or more on the laptop. Hope this helps

When using cool edit pro, I always used 999 as the setting, I figured might as well use the HQ setting if I am going to take the time to do all of this!  Wavelab is the best at resampling...if you wanna link, PM me ;)
