Title: AmbiExplorer- Ambisonic B-format Android app (head-tracking binaural)
Post by: Gutbucket on February 20, 2014, 05:16:25 PM
AmbiExplorer- http://www.hcenteno.net/software.html (http://www.hcenteno.net/software.html)

A very interesting Ambisonic B-format decoding Android app with binaural output (or virtual microphones) and the capability of using the device's sensors for soundfield orientation and rotation.

That means you could strap your Android device to the top band of your headphones, play back a B-format ambisonic recording on it and as you rotate your head left/right, up/down, roll/tumble or whatever, the soundstage presented through your headphones stays put and you rotate your perspective within it as if you were at the live event, instead of the scene rotating along with your head as it normally would with stereo headphone playback.  Turn to face the drummer, or away from the keyboard dude to listen to the guitarist, or turn around backwards to face the annoying couple talking behind you!

Pretty cool stuff if it works! Unfortunatley I don't have an Android device.

Take note for freedom of horizontal axis playback of 3-channel Dual M/S or Josephson C700S recordings, and 4-channel Neumann QM69 recordings.  And for full 'periphonic' 3-axis freedom of playback for 4-channel Soundfield and Tetramic sourced recordings.

 :o This sounds amazing!

I'm tempted to get a brahma system to experiment with ambisonics, but I'm just an occasional recordist and have a hard time justifying the extra expense. It's only money, right?

Plus a lot more geekdom.

Half-tempted to pick-up an android to play with this.
