Can someone help me think of a product or a way to get a discreet mic stand that is thin and have a small base like this:

http://www.music123.com/ProLine-Desk-Boom-Microphone-Stand-454312-i1168473.Music123

I need 3 of these which can go as high as 7 feet or over. Most mic or light stand have a large base which is not very discreet. I don't want it to be too obvious on stage.

Thanks!

If anyone here is making a stand like this please tell me because I really need something small, tall and can adjust the height.

Call A.P.I.C and ask for Richard Roberts - He can construct anything that you want.  He has built 2 very nice stands for me with small footprints - 1-800-600-1147 or 973-405-6185.

when running onstage, I find that my recordings turn out better at 3' or lower b/c you get the direct sound from the amps onstage. You can use a small bogen stand 3373 or for lower profile, you could use a short weighted mic stand like they use for kick drums. just take the boom arm off of it for a solid low profile set up.

With a 7' high stand, your going to need a good base or the thing will want to fall over, possibly trashing your mics or hurting someone. It will either have to be heavy or have a big footprint or you'll have secure to the stage somehow. Would hanging the mics be an option for you?

I have a multi-segment APIC mono stand that goes to about 9'. As cybergaloot mentioned, it can be very unstable when run more than about half that height. I usually just screw it onto a small desktop stand and run it at it's lowest height if recording onstage. If I want to go higher I sometimes stick a plate from a barbell set over the stand base and that works up to about 7' if I know the stand won't get bumped.  The configuration I use most is to screw the monopod onto a Bogen quick release clamp*. In that setup, I don't have to worry about the pole getting knocked over. Use the quick release clamp in conjunction with a super clamp and almost any situation except outdoor open taping is covered.

* also known as a Manfrotto 649 table clamp.

You may also be able to use something like what's pictured in the following post, adjustable height and a compact base:

My bet is the K&M 260/8. It has a heavy but discreet base and goes to 328cm (almost 11 feet). Best picture I could find in a hurry is here (the right hand stand in the picture):

I have three of them, but will get more as I really like them.
