Title: urgent advice re firepod...
Post by: yousef on July 09, 2013, 03:20:25 PM
Got a contingency plan but can anyone think of a simple reason why a Persons fp10 isn't passing an analogue signal to a hd24?

I think the lack of set-up was the problem...

I'd assumed that left to its own devices the Firepod would default to passing the signal from the analogue ins straight through to the outs but presumably this is not the case.

I've never even plugged it into a PC - will have to dig out an old laptop with a Firewire socket and see what gives...

I have tested mine with no firewire, not connected to a computer, powered up, with inputs in the front and it passed signal through to the direct outs on the back just fine.  No computer involved.  It was important to me to see that it worked liked that so I tested it with success.  I also tested if it would pass signal through to the direct outs on the back when connected to a PC via firewire and everything is great and then the firewire wire is pulled, and the answer is no, it did not pass signal then.  This all confirms what Presonus tech support predicted when I called to ask them what would happen in the above scenarios.

Reading around the web it seems there was a firmware update between the issue of the Firepod and the ones branded as the "FP10" and that the newer version allows pass-through without a computer being connected...

But if you attempt to upgrade the firmware with anything other than XP you risk bricking the Firepod.

Just need to locate a Firewire-equipped XP machine that can communicate with the problematic Firepod firewire chipset  :-\

I've got several, to bad we are separated by an ocean or I'd lend you a laptop.  Hell.  Check ebay/craiglist, ~2003-2005 XP laptops can't be going for much at all at this point.

:o) I appreciate the sentiment.

I've got a couple of laptops with Firewire ports here but neither recognize the Firepod at all...

Got a couple more options before I start the Ebay trawl.
