iRiver help with corrupt file
« on: October 08, 2008, 10:00:15 PM »
I was taping a show and my iRiver (ihp-120) got full mid-taping, as a result the file is corrupted and I cannot get it off the iRiver. I understand this is a common problem? Is there any way to salvage the file as it is a 600some meg file, so I assume there is stuff on it. How can I get the file to be read.

Thanks

I would start as follows:
- delete something else on the iriver that you can live without, and empty recycling bin
- run chkdisk and defrag
- try to copy the file now.
- if that doesn't work, see if you can play the file on the iriver, and if you can, do a digi patch to another recorder.

So after doing those steps I was able to copy the file to the computer, but I still cannot play it. Nor does it play on my iRiver.

Sounds like either a bad file header or the offset is incorrect. Both problems have been addressed here several times. One of the more useful threads I've found is this one: http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,53521.0.html  Read it all the way through and you may be able to recover and listen to the file.

If it's a bad header, do an advanced search for wave header repair by pigiron which is a neat little program that just repairs bad headers.
