Any Mac "Audacity" Users?
« on: March 29, 2004, 09:13:20 AM »
In my quest for cheap recording software for the mac I found Audacity. I think I've seen a few talk of it here and there. I was happy to see it was OS X compatiable and the fact it was free. I hooked up the UA-1D and low and behold it worked great. Now I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to track it out or delete a section. I tried for a while but needed to get to bed. I'll also be needing to downsample as well.  I'll look at it some more tonight, I just thought I'd see if any of you fellow mac geeks have used this.

I've used it, and it's nice, but I'd go with Sound Studio for tracking and editing for now.  Only $50, and I paid for it, but if you can find it for free if you so desire.

I paid for it as well - the trial period is extremely generous. The # of days you can use it isn't contiguous, so you could actually have the program for a few months before you use up the trial period (which is what I did - I'd use it for one day to transfer a shitload of stuff, then take a few weeks to convert it, and start all over again).

The only thing I dislike about SS is that you can't zoom down to the sample level - I'm still using SoundEdit 16 for fixing pops and clicks but might give Audacity a try for that...

how do you know if you are using a trial version of sound studio? It came with my ibook and I upgraded it to the version that will record 24 bit. I think I am using a full version.

I downloaded the trial and I'll have to look into Sound Studio a bit more. Audacity was pretty easy all in all. Just have not had time to look into it all yet.

i believe you need plugins to downsample with Audacity - and i'm not sure if they are all available for non-windows platforms.
