Vista and XP dual boot help.
« on: June 12, 2007, 10:38:29 PM »
Hey yall,
I have a HP lappy that came with Vista premium installed.  Like most people.... I am pissed off that half of my programs will not work with vista.  I have read up a bunch on dual installing XP and it seems pretty straight forward.  Problem is XP will not recognize my SATA drives.

Does anyone know How I can get XP to install on SATA drives???

thanks for any help.

KLowe

See if you can find the drivers for your SATA controller.  XP gives you an option to load 3rd party drivers at the beginning of the install process.  You should be able to find out what controller you have in Vista's Control Panel/Device Manager, then just Google for XP drivers.

Hope this helps,

Pat

Yeah.  Problem is that XP will only allow drivers to be installed via floppy disk.  Dont have one of those.   >:(

Wonder if you can "slipstream" those drivers into a new XP install disc.

You can go into the BIOS I think and change the way the SATA drives are handled (disable rAID or something). I had to do this to my old mans desktop. Sorry I am of no other help. Check with HP support online and I am sure you will find the answer.
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
