its long but worth you time.  it proves some issues ive heard argued here often are BS.

sometimes audio arguments are like just like a baptist preacher arguing with a scientist over creation.

Thanks for posting this! I'd love to hear the entire presentation - it would be well worth the investment in time.  I just finished a course in audio mastering, and I'm still in hyper-learning mode.

Great talk.  Clearly the preamp and ADC don't matter.  It's all in the mics!

The thing this does not address is dynamics.  Will the impulse response explain the difference in mic sounds?  Also the variations in direction.

i dont think i would discredit the preamp.  they still can add flavor to any tape....but this does prove that people spend a lot of money on a placebo.

What this shows (IMO) is that practically any gear, minidisc for example, is enough to record quality music.  It is also enough to show huge differences between various mics and mic configurations.

i still trust my ears too. 

its allot like arguing religion over science when talking about creation.  i think there is a happy middle.  science cant gauge detail, among many other aspects in audio.
