Bumping this thread to see if anyone has an recommendations for a android recording app.  They mostly seem like garbage.  I'll pay for a good one.  Thanks.

I recommend Axet Audio Recorder. You can get it on F-Droid. It has gain control, lossless wav or flac recording, and (on some phones) 24 or 32 float recording. I just use the internal mics but it seems to support external ones too.

Few words of warning:
- Don't use realtime encoding (it sometimes causes recordings with glitches, clicks, etc)
- Don't use sample rates over 48khz (also can cause glitches, plus every phone I've tested brickwalls at 48khz anyway making it pointless)
- Don't play other media or use the camera while recording (it can either temporarily or permanently silence the recording)
- I find the "Unprocessed" rec source to cause clipping where the "Mic" one doesn't.
- Even if the highest setting is 24-bit, try checking the metadata - my phone said 24 bit but the files were actually 32-bit float!

That sounds like a lot, but I've used this app for years and I find it very reliable when used right.

Here’s something to consider.  After noticing the audio is really good for short videos of concerts I tried video recording a full concert but with the phone in a pocket upper left chest.  Separated the audio from the video which was blank anyway and came away with a 16/44.1 stereo recording.  Concert was Foreigner.  A slight curve adjustment and the recording came out pretty good.
A lot of people run a race to see who is the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.
