Shure MoveMic 88+
« on: March 06, 2025, 09:10:46 AM »
Shure has a new microphone that's wireless and very similar to the MV88+, which is not wireless. They call it the MoveMic 88+:
https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/movemic88plus?variant=MV88%2BW-Z7

Some specs from the specs document https://shure.widen.net/s/5rrpg9tr5n/movemic_88_specsheet_en_a4:
4 selectable polar patterns for ultimate versatility (adjustable stereo, mono cardioid, mono bi-directional, raw mid-side).
Max Sound Pressure Level (SPL) 122.4dB SPL
Bit Rate Direct To Phone 16Bit
Bit Rate To MoveMic Receiver up to 24Bit

Not sure who the target audience is for this microphone is; the wireless space is becoming pretty crowded for the 'run and gun' stuff.
This mic is among the more expensive ones (AFAIK) for the prosumer level.
Maybe people will like it more than rode/dji because it's from Shure. Having the adjustable patters is neat and can be done on the mv88+ with the shure app.

Almost refreshing that something new comes out without 32bf - but 16bit only unless you buy the receiver!?

It could have been intersting for me if the Receiver had build-in recording capability.
I have the original MV88 (for iPhone only) and I like the versatility a lot.
Roland R-07 -> FEL Communications Clippy EM172 Omnis or pair of RØDE Lavaliers.
iPhone 14 -> Shure MV88 or Sennheiser AMBEO Smart Headset

I agree - a new product that isn't based on 32 fp is surprising in today's market, but it being only 16 bit is an interesting choice, especially for the price of the mic and the receiver. Onboard recording would have been wonderful.

I have the model in between yours and this one - mv88+. I also like the versatility, but the short lightening to usb cable means you have to have your phone nearby.

Here's a sweetwater promo video with a Shure rep of some kind. It is kinda neat just having the mic in between them and the audio recording to the phone, but as I said earlier, there's a lot of less expensive options to do that now.
Of course those options don't allow you to change to polar pattern.

Here's a shure promo video where they teamed up with some documentary film maker.

I doubt we'll see any actual consumers using this mic for a long time; just all the 'influencer' style videos is what we'll have for awhile, i imagine.
