Title: MK4v lemo collette mounts
Post by: waltmon on March 30, 2016, 11:45:26 AM
Can anyone post a pic or 2 of their mounts when running mk4v's with the Collette cables?

Thanks.

Nbob or schoeps colletes?

They would be the schoeps collettes - I was looking at a pair that were set up for a lemosax - I was sure there were better ways to mount them than the set I saw pics of

Thanks

I use following bob's sgc-style clips to vertically mount my mk4vs

Is there much sonic difference in the 4V?   Ive always like the 4V and 41V recording the best of the schoeps pulls.

The 4V has a slight high-end emphasis around 10k.  The 41v does not have this emphasis from what I understand.

I think the boost is really a plus especially in boomier room recordings I've heard Appreciate the input.

Been drowning myself in sound samples lately doing comparisons. Comparing schoeps mk4s versus 4vs as well as Neumann LD vs SD comps.

One mic I am super impressed with is the Neumann KM185 - there are excellent examples on archive.  I read some pretty interesting comparisons between them and 641's.

Is there an adaptor to go from the Collette lemo connector to XLR...if you wanted to use a different pre or maybe go directly to the 744T for example?

The boost only happens in the 4v's!  The 41v's have the same sound as 41's they are just vertical caps.  You could get a set of Nbob actives with PFA's or a Schoeps KCY cable and PFA to run into any pre or recorder.   I have a set of Nbob cables I might consider selling if you are interested.

Mk's 5 also have a top end lift when run as cardioids but I believe its different than the mk4v's.

Thank you...just researching at this point. I was kinda looking at a 4v package that came with a lemosax etc...but it would be nice to be able to use my v2 as well...just looking at options.

You are correct, but I was only referring to the  V caps!!  The 5 bump isn't as pronounced as the 4V

^^buy that package so I don't do something dumb.    :P  .....it seems to be a pretty fair price.
I assume that a pair of Lemo > PFA could be made by Naiant...  but you should ask Jon Stoppable first to confirm.
The Lemo cables were made/modified by Posthorn.  I asked the seller.

I have both; the 4V does seem to have a bit more of a boost. I also feel like I somewhat prefer the sound, but that's extremely subjective, given that my 4Vs are old, my 5s were bought new, and all Schoeps sound pretty alike...

The 41V, as noted, sounds the same as the 41; it's just a matter of preferring the convenience of vertical caps (I do)

I thought it was a tad on the high side for over 10 years old

I'd have to say that the mk6 caps sound different than all the caps mentioned here.  To my ears they sound the best of all schoeps caps but what do I know ;)

No kidding.  Been looking at that package since Larry posted the link a few weeks ago.  Was ~3K at first.  I was thinking of sending the cables off to Robb to make some extensions for them (since they're only 8 feet) that would go between the lemos and collettes near the lemo end.  Then at the same time have some pfa's made that would also work with the extensions so they could be ran with the sax or any other pre w/ xlr connectors.  Did anyone find out how much voltage the power supply shown outputs?
