I'm taping some friends tonight, they are playing at a little coffee shop, there wont really be a stage, they are just setting up with a couple speakers, i have a stand but i wanna be as close to the speakers as possible, what would anyone suggest trying to do if im running some at853s? i was thinking about just taping my shock mount and t bar to the floor and then running the mics from there

MattD:
clamp to a chair ... so long as you or someone you know is sitting in it or you can see it the whole time, you're fine

yes, i've done this

sexymexi:
run SBD...  or just run your mics..  but i wouldn't tape them to the floor, at least a table, or chair there in front..

Lee:
for acoustic stuff at my coffeehouse, I've just clamped on to the center vocal mic stand about 1/2 way between the vocal mic and where the body of a guitar would be when someone is singing and playing.  A wide (~120*) XY coincident pattern works great for this with cards.

sexymexi:
yea, but thats been a problem when i've done small acoustic coffee house gigs.  probably cause when my mics are like that i get more sound from my monitors, vs my main speakers which sound so much better.  what might be kinda cool like with my pa the mains are on stands, but if you could clamp a mic to each stand, that would be cool to try..
