Title: My two setups..anyone have any input, worked with either of these??
Post by: Ray76 on December 03, 2004, 06:10:43 PM
My first setup is this: rode nt-4(the link is:http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/RD-NT4)>digimod ua-5>JB3 (this is for me, and a guitar or me and a piano)

my second one is ADK SC-2's(link is:http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/ADK-SC-2)>digimod-ua-5>JB3 this will be my concert taping rig...

or do you think that substituting the coresounds 2496(
http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/CS-MIC2496) for the digimod will be better??? I have searched for comparisons, but cant seem to find any..

My wifes rig is simple..She has Sony ECM-MS907>SP-PASM-2(http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-PASM-2)>JB3..She is very pleased with it. I had originally intended to use the omnis that came with the sp-pasm-2, but she loves her sony ecm.....

So I have (or will have (soon as I recieve the jb3 that I bought from tim) 2 setups, but I really want to make the right choice(s) any comments on the above would be great.
I am a lot father than I was two months ago, but I am still a dummy in the grand scheme of things...
Thanks a lot, folks.. ;D

Personally, I'd go with the SC-2 > digi-UA5 > JB3 setup for these reasons:

[1]  The NT4 limits you to XY, while SC-2 offers flexibility for coincident (XY) and near-coincident (ORTF, DIN, NOS) configs
[2]  The Oade digi-mod UA5 offers greater flexibility across the board than the Mic2496:  broader feature set, better customer service/support, etc.
[3]  I don't think you should dick around with 24-bit laptop recording at this point, something the Mic2496 would require
[4]  I've never really liked the NT4 recordings I've heard.  But really, the first three are the biggies.

FWIW.
