SO......where did you get your mic stand
« on: November 11, 2003, 09:04:54 PM »
I have noticed some love for bogen stands around here.  I am looking for a stand to run 2 MK012's off of.  Any users out there that can point me in the right direction.  Also if I will need any extras as far as being able to do the correct mic configs I would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks to all the kind people here I almost have all I need to start taping.  I can already patch.  thanks :coolguy:

i got mine (bogen) at micsupply but i think you can find a better price...however they did have a package deal and you may want to ask about that.
you'll need a t-dar at the very least, but i highly recommend getting shockmounts also.  sabrasom will do the trick and are very versatile but break easily.  at8410's (the ones with the clips) will works great....you can also pick up a set of tensamounts for like $30 for the pair, much cheaper than either of the above.

B&H and MicSupply are both very good, but I must say the full B&H catalog makes the most excellent shitter reading material ;D

got my stand from sonic sense.

d, drum mic stand may be too short.  definitely want to go weighted base, then get a couple different size stand uprights for different scenarios.

I found this link in the archival info section (Bogen/Manfrotto thread adapters)

http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=search&item=SP-TMA-1&type=store

I ordered it last wednesday but it has yet to arrive...  I'm going to assume it is lost (US priority should have had it here the past wednesday at the latest)...

I just called and talked to SoundPros...  TOld them my situation, that I had ordered on 11/5/03 and have yet to receive my 2-3 day priority pax with my adapter (11/13/03, makes 6 business days)...

They said that USPS can be slow sometimes and that I shold be patient...  BUt then he saw I had only order a $5 part...  He said he would send out another today via fedex no charge...

What great figgin' service!!!  Everybody here needs to go over there and buy there adapter piece from them...  Just don't rely on USPS Priority Mail!!!

I got mine from B&H also. I think it was around $60 shipped for an 8ft with a small footprint. While in NYC for Panic, we noticed that B&H was only a block from MSG so of course we checked it out. My jaw dropped when we walked in the door. Most complete audio/video store I've ever been in.

After a show where my recording was full of blah blah because I was using a little boom stand borrowed from my PA rig, I got fed up and decided to buy one the same day.  A camera shop in Dallas had one pretty much just like the Bogen stands.  It had the "pneumatic" feature like a lot of stands do where you can release the friction lock and just watch the mics hiss down to your level.  I think it was $70.  9'4".

One thing that's occurred to me since:  The stand is black, and that makes it absolutely invisible in a dark club.  I'm thinking that if I had it to do over I'd get a silver stand so people might have a chance of seeing the legs.

In the meantime, I think I'll glowtape the ends of the legs.  Maybe that'll help.

Chuck
