First, I believe Todd may be modding my gc mc012's if that means anything.
second, I have the 24 bit bug, so I'm getting a UA-5 fo sho, I just don't know whether to go pmod or wmod.
Now thanks to Ryan I have some mc012 > pmod sources. Haven't heard wmod sources, and I'd love to hear some opinions. TIA! :)

hard to say with modded mc012s.
Straight up mc012s would seem to need p-mod as they are a bit bottom heavy. The Dorsey mod is supposed to fix this on the Mic itself, but I haven't had the time to do it yet.
Someone on the board is running Dorsey Mod Oktavas.......

thanks for reply. what's your general observations from your mc012's > digi ua-5?

I wish I had some w-mod sources still, but try it out before you make a desicion...
The w-mod sounds really good with the oktavas...smooooth

+t and thans fopr the reply.
I should also add that while I will definitely be using these in the field, I plan to log many "studio" (my basement) hours on this rig. As far as my field usage is concerned, it will be mainly my band and my friend's band(s).
Basically, 90% of the time I will be in (almost) complete control o fthe environment.

I'd have to give a vote for the presence mod. Here's a great sample:

I was honestly never a big fan of the MC012s until I heard this show...they sound *very* nice with the p-mod UA5.

Chris, I have a pair of Dorsey mod'ed MC012's.
I just recently taped with them for the first time, an ekoostik hookah show (blah!)... I run MC012 > digUA-5 if you'd like to hear it. I also have a comparison CD that I downloaded from a link off of this site which compares mod vs unmod-ed bodies with SD matched caps. Ship of Fools, listened to it many times over and think the mod provides a silkier or smoother top end and most definately tightens up the bass. However, I still think when I go for the mod I'm going to get a P-mod...

+t's all around.
Nick, I'm about to check out that DTB show, we'll see how that sounds.
npsinboro, I did find that post-mod pre-mod comparison and you're right, good reference, I didn't notice too much on my crummy playback but I'm going to take it to a good system. when are you getting your mod ua-5?

Chris, thats a link to my dorsey mod'ed sourced Ekoostik Hookah show, it's not available yet until they get "verified" probably a couple days then you can check it out.
Not sure when I'll mod mine, maybe w/my tax returns maybe this summer.. I really don't dislike the stock UA-5 so it's not a big deal yet ;D
I listened to the comp in my car which has a nicer system, including some infinity subs--it showed the most there.. Instead of being "flabby" and loose it's tight. Helps with the big bass makers in the trunk to amplify the effects.
Take care,
Nick

This show is not yet available. The current progress notes are:
MD5 checksum verification failed. Waiting for user to correct.
so is this what it shows when they have not yet approved downloads??

Impressive for a $300 rig !
Big bottom , clear, but not strident top-end, I like the sound.
But not as much as MBHO603A>>V3
or DPA4022>>V3
No surprise !
