Hey team...
can anybody recommend a reputable conversion program to help me out here. I don't mind paying money- in fact I'd probably feel better about paying money for it.
I recently starting fooling around with shooting some toy-footage on the "camcorder" app in my (work supplied) Motorola Defy+ mobile handset. The still image resolution is 5mp which I like the look of (I like the limitations of it and don't own a camera outwith) and the the moving image quality is surprisingly good.
I thought I'd have a crack at editing something together (a little expose of a local trail-run that I do) and thought I'd do some great sound for it as an exercise. Sound isn't the problem. The handset produces files which are "3gp" and I downloaded some evaluation patch to convert to "(something- I've forgotten!)" which actually imported into my Protools 8LE platform. So far so good.
Can someone recommend a patch/program which convert 3gp into the real world for me...?
Thanks
JimP

wow!
this must really be something I'm on my own with!?
Ok, fair enough.
I know it's distinctly a lowtech question; I like the idea of squeezing the small stuff for visual results.
Whereas I'd always go allout for sound.

I use an old "free" version of DVDfab to do stuff like this.
http://www.dvdfab.com/
It looks like the current version of what I have costs $200, but they offer just the video converter portion of the software for $40. I have no idea what 3GP files are, so I can't test its ability to convert FROM them, but it IS an option for me to convert any other video TO. So I assume it'll convert from 3GP to anything else too.

hey- thanks for that, Matt...!

Will WinFF do what you want?
http://winff.org/html_new/
I've only used it to convert avi to MP4 so I don't know about how it works with other conversions. But its free!

Media Coder is also free and claims to do 3gp.

Just watch out as you install, there's some junkware and toolbars that you need to say no to.
