I hope someone can help with with this question.  Anyway I love this camera, but recently I have noticed a bright orange light blinking when I try to take pictures.  I fooled around with the settings to slow down shutter speed, but I just reset to factory settings, and when I tried to take a pictures that same bright orange light was blinking on the front of my camera before I took the pic.  What is this and how can I get rid of it?

i'd bet it's either an autofocus assist beam or a red-eye reduction lamp.  sorry i can't be of any more help...

hm I wonder if that is what it is...it is just annoying, because at concerts it is bright and it I know it must annoy those people in front of me cause its blinking on the back of their heads, haha.

I have never noticed it before until recetly when I started to mess with settings, that is why I reset them to the factory settings....but it as there again. Gr.

I did a quick google.

From DCRP:

Below the flash is the autofocus illuminator, which is always a welcome sight. This bright orange lamp helps the camera focus when lighting is low. All cameras should have this (and they still don't).

Try this.

Go to the function menu:


Find the AF-assist beam (on/off) menu item (3rd one down, says "AF"), turn it to off.

See if that doesn't turn off the orange light
