Title: CA STC-11 > CA-9100 - non symmetrical recording
Post by: nigelsh on May 10, 2009, 11:03:33 PM
Hi I'm hoping that someone can suggest a possible reason why a recording would go 'non-symmetrical' part way through. If you look at the attached picture you will see that my recording is fairly evenly spread above and below zero until approximately 53 minutes in - at that point the sound below the zero midpoint is significantly less than that above zero.

I've noticed this phenomena in most of my recent recordings but have no idea what might be causing it - hence my hope that someone here may be able to suggest what might be wrong.

Thanks
Nigel

the battery in the preamp is dying.

are you using rechargeables?

yes, I'm using a rechargeable 9v battery. I'll try my next show with a new battery - thanks for the suggestion

Chris Church doesn't recommend those rechargable 9 volts.  You can get a lot of hours out of one new, non-rechargable.

I'm glad I mentioned that I was using a rechargeable! I'll try a regular 9v for my next show on Wednesday. Thanks

It's more like he doesn't recommend common 8.4V accu, You just have to look for 9.6V one.

Yes this one is very good. I recommend it to all of my customers it saves money in the long run and its better then throwing batteries in a landfill.

Just found this...

Anyone have any experience with them, yet?

Thanks to everyone who has responded. A regular 9v battery fixed my problem - but now I'll probably pursue one of these 9.6v rechargeables

i run my 9100 open alot.  when i do, i rigged up a connector so i can use a 9.6v RC battery.  ive let it run for 18 hrs straight at a festival and STILL had plenty left to record for a week straight.

That's pretty awesome.  You should make a DIY thread about that and put a link to it into the Team Church thread.  I'm sure that a lot of people would be interested in learning how to do that, even if they don't end up doing it.
