Title: Belden 83803 for shielded AC power run
Post by: DigiGal on February 04, 2011, 07:21:43 PM
Has anyone used Belden 83803 for an AC power run?  It is widely used for making shielded audiophile AC cables.

Belden 83803 cable data sheet (http://diyaudioprojects.com/Power/diyMains/Belden-83803-Cable-Datasheet.pdf)

I'm considering setting up a dedicated circuit breaker for powering our home theater's sound system via the line conditioner.  Wondering if it would be worthwhile to run this cable in-wall say about 30 ft. or just go with standard 12/2 Romex.

This is a redundant post the other is in the less active Home Theater & HDTV section.

From the spec-sheet it should work just fine.... If I were doing that especially in a home make SURE and use phase tape on the conductors so if later down the road another electrician works on the house they do not get confused. Red is usually designated as a switch loop OR for the 2nd leg of a 220 volt circuit. My suggestion would be to use the white (neutral) and black (hot) as normal and then use the red wire as your ground and wrap it with green electrical (phase) tape. This should help avoid any confusion later when working on that circuit.
