Mac Amp suddenly won't start on my 10.3.3 Mac. The icon bounces in the dock for a while and then it stops without the little black arrow under it. And the application is listed in the "force quit" menu. Why is this happening? It happens the same with both versions. I just want to listen to my SHNs!
-
Tried trashing your prefs? That usually fixes most problems...
-
Tried that, well, deleted the file "com.subband.MacAmpLiteX.plist" from the preferences folder, but still nothing. Am I supposed to have a preferences folder for this? What is it called?
-
did you recently install the 10.3.3 update?
-
yes, but I couldn't tell you if MacAmp stopped right after that or not. It is possible. Does anyone else have this problem?
-
try going to disk utility (applications > utilities) and repair permissions on the boot disk
-
silly mac users ;-)
-
Tried that and nothing new. Do I need to do this from a boot disk?
-
go to
applications > utilites > console and look at the crash log for macamp. post it here, maybe that'll help

system.log also has this over and over

Apr 29 22:53:02 localhost /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: /Applications/MacAmp/MacAmp Lite X.app/Contents/MacOS/MacAmp Lite X couldn't be prebound in the past, and probably can't be prebound now.

same deal. tried the same stuff. got the same messages. then did some pre-binding (and re-pre-binding) with Cocktail. still no dice.
at least one other guy i know has the same thing going on. you are not alone. i'll be watching.
thanks.

Ok, so maybe this'll help, maybe not;
Here's some more info that isn't currently doing me any good.
After letting macamp "not run" for a while, it still doesn't show as being hung up:
"445 MacAmp Lite X tabrandt 0.00 4 2.86 MB 53.20 MB"
Inspecting with System Profiler shows macamp has the following "Open Files":

Was it the QuickTime update? Was it sunspots? Was it karma for that thing we all did the other day? No clue. So, here's what fixed it for me (damn misspelled hidden files)...
Find the invisible .matlx_license and trash it.
You'll need to re-register it. Since subband is defunct, to get the codes again, you'll want to go to http://www.arcticlounge.com/maltx where they've got all the MacAmp Lite X stuff archived.
Now, back to why...
Hmmm, gee, I wonder. ;)
Be nice, Apple.
-
It magically started working for me too, even though I didn't delete the hidden license file. Now my skins are all gone, but that's OK. It works again, and I hope it stays working.
-
i had the same problem. i went to www.macamp.com and now it seems the old page with the programs is gone, and they are going to ressurect the program. i wonder if macamp lite was sending a message back to the creators over the internet...what do they call that...calling home?
there is still an archive of the site that i found at wiki.etree.org, and just for my own piece of mind. i d/l and archived the site and all the programs/codes/plugins to cd-r.
in any event. i trashed the original file, and re-installed, and everything worked fine.
-
macamp.com isn't the site for MaltX/Mac Amp Lite X - that's at subband software, which is now defunct (subband.com and macamplite.com is where it was). Now the only place you can get it is at http://arcticlounge.com/maltx/index.php like HotLava said.
For what it's worth, I've used it on a nearly daily basis for the past year-plus and haven't had any problems even after installing all of the latest OS upgrades...I doubt it's calling home because there *is* no home...

Great, now mine is doing the same thing...
-
just a note: be sure to notice that the .matlx-license file is spelled differently than the user name MALTX User. "matlx" vs. "maltx"
A little strange.
