Self-noise of internal mics - does anyone know some numbers?
« on: March 17, 2012, 11:53:00 AM »
I've searched around for an answer to this for a while but couldn't find anything. What I'm interested in finding out is how much the self-noise is of the internal mics on many of the handheld recorders? The only one I've heard about is the M10 which is said to be at around 17dB(A), but it's omni and supposedly very quiet in comparison to others. Are we talking somewhere in the range of 30dB(A) for models with cardioids? I've heard comparisons between different recorders, but the only noise-measurements have been of the preamps and converters.

The reason I'm asking is partly because of pure curiosity, and because I'd like some numbers for comparison with a few external mics.
