Topic: Denon DAT to JB3 cable?

I need to transfer from a Denon DTR-80p to a JB3.
The DAT has Digital In/Out, and Line Out but no Optical Out (just Optical In); while the JB3 has an Optical/Line In, but no Digital In. 

(I tried a mini optical cable, but no dice. )

Do I have any other options besides going line out to do this?

The DAT has Digital In/Out

If it's S/PDIF or AES output, you can use a digital format converter between the DAT and JB3.  If S/PDIF, use a Hosa ODL-276 - it converts coax S/PDIF to optical and vice versa.  If AES, a Hosa ODL-312 - it converts AES to optical and vice versa (and I just happen to have one for sale).

Actually, I have the ODL-312, the AES <--> optical converter.  Though I think there's an ODL-276 in the Yard Sale forum.

You could see if ya can borrow a UA5 too!!! This would convert the signal digital>digital w/ DAt>SPDIF(In)>UA5>Optical(Out)>NJB3

S/PDIF is balanced on an AES/EBU connector, which is 110 ohm digital.  S/PDIF is unbalanced on a phono connector, which is 75 ohm digital.  You could compare it to using XLR cables vs. using RCA cables.  The main difference is the balanced/unbalanced aspect of it all.

I am 99% sure this would not work on a standalone UA5. I think this was covered and explained in another thread. Not sure about a stock UA5, but it would not be a bit accurate solution even if it worked.

This method resamples all of your data - the UA5 is known NOT to be bit-perfect for doing digital transfers.

The best bet is to buy a Hosa ODL 276 and convert the coax out to an opt in.
