Just ordered some canary starquad cable
« on: November 22, 2005, 01:32:19 PM »
I plan on making a 6' RCA cable run for Sound board patch. Cable I am using  L-4E6S BE Canare Star-Quad Microphone, and one end of the pair of cables well have SW3502RAAU Right Angle RCA Connector-Nickel/Gold and the other end F-10 Canare F10 RCA Plug. I just wanted to be clear if ya get the two blue (hot) wires inside and solder them to the pin and then you get the shield and solder to the outside of the connecters. Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Peace

I would run the blue wires for the signal/tip and use the white wires (not the outer ground shield) for the ground/outside of the connector.  Actually, for the best shielding against interference, I'd do blue to signal/tip, white to ground/connector, and then also tie the ground shield of the Canare cable only to the connector ground on the soundboard side (no connection of the Canare ground shield at your recorder/preamp side).
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
Preamp:  none <sniff>
Recorders:  Sound Devices MixPre-6, Sony PCM-M10, Zoom H4nPro

Pretty sharp! I just want to chime in with some anal info...

First, you realize if your ever hooking up the XLR adapters to both side, you'd be better off with a fully balenced/grounded XLR to XLR. Thats probably obvious. Same goes for a connection involving 1/4" to XLR. Using TRS 1/4" to XLR fully balenced/grounded would be prefered. I repeat that this is over the top anal info, just thought it might be handy for some people.

Also, everyone knows it is pronounced canare [cun are ee], not like the bird, right? ;D

Did you order your cabling from Markertek?  That seems to be the most affordable outlet around.
