COAX or Optical (Toslink) for DAT Transfer ?
« on: December 02, 2005, 09:58:41 AM »
Is there any reason to choose 1 over the other ?

I will be transferring to PC and have the ability to use either and was just curious if 1 method is preferred over the other.

some say that optical is more susceptible to jitter than coax, but if you're simply transferring to a pc and converting to wav (vs playing back live), jitter (unless extreme) won't be a real issue.

thanks for the reply. i ended up just grabbing the toslink simply because it was closer.

but i wll keep the jitter issue in mind

I used an optical cable for transfer when i first got my d5, and had to recapture a bunch of shows because they had glitches in them.  :(  Lee Geddy made me a coax cable(sweet cord too  ;D) and ive never had to capture a show twice since.   :o

Lee Geddy makes killer custom cords and at a bargain too, look him up!
